Rescue of the Month - Emma
Did you know that November is National Adopt a Senior Pet Month? We're celebrating by spotlighting Emma, a sweet senior Dalmatian that was rescued by the shelter Dogs And Cats Forever, an animal sanctuary and no-kill shelter in Fort Pierce, Florida.
As part of our Free The Shelters campaign in partnership with The Cathy Kangas Foundation, we helped sponsor all adoptions at Dogs and Cats Forever for a month to help clear their shelter and find loving homes for as many animals as we could.
Emma had been at the shelter for several months and was struggling to find her forever home. Because Emma is 9-years old, many people were hesitant to adopt her because of the medical expenses and uncertainties that come with owning an older dog. It's even more difficult to find a home for larger older dogs, as there is a higher demand for small lap dogs.
When a senior couple discovered our Free The Shelters event and learned that adoption fees and medical expenses would be covered, they decided to foster Emma for a short time. Soon enough, they realized they couldn't imagine their life without her! They chose to adopt, giving Emma a bright and loving future.
Emma is thriving in her new home and her new owner Bobbie says she is "an awesome dog".
We love rescue stories like Emma's for reminding us that it’s never too late to begin a new adventure and make a new friend!
